The original dentist office, which was 25 years old, had never been updated. It was purchased by a young, energetic, tech savvy dentist and his wife, who is also a dentist from New York. Their time frame allowed for a 12-day window; his objective was the modernization of a rundown office to a state-of-the-art practice.
The project included all new flooring, change ceiling tiles from 2x4 to 2x2 revealed, wire for computers and televisions in every room, reupholster all equipment, strip wallpaper everywhere, and retexture the walls. We also changed out all the doors throughout, added a decorative entry door, installed crown in waiting area, and created a curved receptionist area. As we began stripping the carpet we found it was glued down to vinyl composition tile (VCT) with monster glue; half of the VCT came up and the rest stayed down. We had to strip all the floors, leaving a lot of floor prep and putting the tight schedule behind. We also added archways to every exam room to add a little bit of architecture to the square space. Last, but not least, we upgraded the bathroom a bit, making it more attractive.
In a time of cost engineering, we were able to bring the project in on time and on budget with little or no changes, and the new project opened right on schedule and continues to grow in a down economy. The dentist went from a practice of taking x-rays on paper to the digital age where you can now sit in the chair, get your mouth x-rayed, then see it on the television in front of you. And while you're getting your teeth worked on, you can watch DIY on television — it’s the dentist's favorite channel… go figure!
This is how things looked before the project:
